So…. What is this role exactly?

This is an exciting opportunity for a Learning and Support Officer at Coops Foyer in Wigan Town Centre.

This is a really exciting time for Coops Foyer - planning permission has just been granted for our new build 38 bed Foyer on the other side of the town centre, and this role will move over with the service when building works are complete.

We are looking for someone full of ideas who shares our high aspirations for our young people. 

What will my working week look like? 

The Learning and Support Officer will work 35 hours per week between the hours of 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday – with flexibility required to be able to meet the needs of our young people.

What will I be responsible for doing?

Coops Foyer provides supported accommodation for young people age 16-25, and as part of our ‘Foyer Deal’, our young people must engage in a programme of work and learning. As Learning and Support Officer you be responsible for overseeing a high quality programme of learning on scheme, delivering life skills, employability and personal development.

One of the great things about this role is you can bring your own personality. Our young people come from a wide range of backgrounds and we try to mirror that in our staff team.

To be a successful as Learning and Support Officer here at YHG, you will have

  • knowledge of designing and delivering varied learning programmes that meet the needs of young people
  • experience creating risk assessments for learning activity sessions

Ideally you will

  • be able to engage and motivate young people from a wide variety of backgrounds
  • be able to demonstrate an Advantaged Thinking approach to supporting people
  • be flexible and resilient

This role is really suited to someone who likes to use their creativity and innovation to enable young people to thrive.

We are recruiting due to an internal promotion; this role offers genuine progression opportunities, with previous LSOs progressing onto Deputy Manager, Foyer Operations Manager and Community Investment Officer roles.

Coops Foyer is accredited with the Foyer Federation meaning we take an asset-based approach, called Advantaged Thinking, in all the work we do; encouraging young people experiencing homelessness to aim high, dream big and fulfil their ambitions.
