So…. What is this role exactly?

This is an exciting opportunity for an Outreach Support worker who will Join the VTSS team in Warrington, you will be based in the Gateway on Sankey Street in Warrington a busy hub of activity that is open to the public.  

VTSS are celebrating 26 years being based in Warrington supporting those who need us most, the team are passionate about helping others and each other to gain the best possible outcomes for our customers and Warrington residents.

We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic team member who has a passion for going the extra mile to coach and support individuals or families who are experiencing or threatened with homelessness, we need someone who is flexible and enjoys a challenge.  

What will my working week look like? 

Based at the Gateway in Warrington, working Monday to Friday 06.45 am to 14.15 pm with half an hour lunch break – the lunch break can be extended.

What will I be responsible for doing?

First and foremost, you will undertake a morning street walk at 7.00 am each day, in pairs, around Warrington town centre, meeting and speaking to people who have slept outdoors, checking on their welfare, speaking to them to collect personal and sensitive information, also providing signposting advice and guidance. A lone worker device will need to be utilised at all times.

One of the great things about this role is that you can make a difference – if you are a good listener and have the skills to coach and engage people, who may have experienced challenges and barriers, you can help to break those barriers down.

Your other duties will include making referrals to local Supported housing accommodation providers, completing paperwork to include Support plans and Risk Assessments, imputing data into a case management system. Attending internal and external meetings, working on a 1-2-1 basis with customers and accompanying them to planned appointments. Working as part of a team.

To be a successful as an outreach worker, here at YHG, you will have the confidence, skill set and ability to be the first point of contact for a person who is sleeping on the street/ in a park or a field / you will build up a rapport and trust, so they feel they are ready to engage with you.

Ideally you will be a collaborative team player, who enjoys problem solving, takes pride in their work and is passionate about making a difference.

This role is really suited to someone who likes to deal with people in person / face to face, is a good listener, who can engage in meaningful conversations, can be assertive and has a sense of humour.
