So…. What is this role exactly?
This is an exciting opportunity for a Management Accountant to join YHG’s Finance Team.
We are looking for a dynamic and knowledgeable fully or part qualified Management Accountant with excellent attention to detail, analytical and problem-solving skills to join our established department, reporting into the Commercial Finance Manager. The role also comes with line-management responsibilities providing excellent opportunities to build experience in a management role.
The Finance Team has had a lot of positive changes taking place recently, including the further automation of Financial Systems and a simplified, remodelled chart of accounts – it’s a role and environment that you can truly make your own and provides a real opportunity to help shape further improvements.
What will my working week look like?
You will be homebased, living within the North West, within a reasonable travelling distance of our Head Office in Warrington, to attend meetings and training courses when needed. Realistically, you will be required to visit our Head Office approximately once a week.
What will I be responsible for doing?
First and foremost you will have responsibility for producing and reviewing management accounts information, providing insightful variance analysis, with root cause analysis, through interrogation of financial performance and discussion with budget holders. You will work with the accounts team to ensure that transactions and postings are accurate, timely and robustly evidenced. You will be heavily involved in monthly variance analysis of actual performance against budget and forecast and also work with budget holders in the business during budget/forecast-setting periods.
You will also lead and manage Assistant Management Accountants, providing guidance and oversight ensuring that all reporting is clear, concise and accurate.

- A fully qualified member of a recognised accounting body with a good knowledge of up-to-date accounting standards. You will show that you can produce management accounts packs, including profit & loss and balance sheet analysis, to the required level of detail in line with reporting timetables.
- You will also demonstrate good problem-solving ability and ideally you will be a collaborative team player who is capable of managing workload efficiently whilst prioritising organisational priorities and maintaining quality output. It would be of great benefit if you have experience of working in a Housing Association or similar asset-based/regulated sector.
- Membership of a recognised accounting body (i.e. ACA (Association of Chartered Accountants), ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants), CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants), CIPFA(Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy) – Fully Qualified preferred, but part-qualified also considered.
- Experience of working within a Social Housing Organisation or similar
- Working knowledge of the latest Accounting Standards, particularly FRS102
- Experience liaising with non-finance colleagues in the preparation of both budgets and forecasts to a high level of accuracy
- Demonstrate experience of applying Statutory and Regulatory Reporting requirements
- Demonstrate personal case studies showing management account production, presentation and analysis within a large complex organisation with multiple systems
- Advanced level Microsoft Excel skills
- Ideally you will be a collaborative team player who is capable of managing workload efficiently whilst prioritising organisational priorities and maintaining quality output.
- Line management experience is preferred but not essential.
