Contract:                  Fixed Term Apprenticeship (Monday to Friday)

Location:                 Staffordshire

Weekly Hours:         40 hours (inclusive of approx. 1 day of study time)

 

So…. What is this role exactly?

This is an exciting Apprenticeship opportunity to join Your Housing Group’s Repairs and Maintenance Division to train and qualify as a Joiner, working alongside and supported by members of our Repairs and Maintenance team who provide a high-quality repairs and replacement service.

The role will be based in the Staffordshire area. You will be supported by colleagues and the management team in the area to develop your trade, customer, and technical skills. The apprenticeship will require you to attend college or a specific location near the area to complete your trade qualification; along with being given practical on the job experience to enhance your skills and behaviours.

We are looking for people who are organised, enthusiastic and can take initiative that are keen to learn new skills or develop existing skills in order to be customer focused.

What will my working week look like? 

You will live within a reasonable distance of the place of study to ensure you will be able to get to and from college/training provider at the times required, course attendance is a mandatory element of the apprenticeship. You will also be available to work all other non-study days within the working week. On occasion you will be required to attend our Head Office in Birchwood, Warrington to attend meetings and training courses when needed.

Undertaking an apprenticeship requires you to spend 80% of your time on the job developing and implementing the skills you learn during your apprenticeship, undertaking key responsibilities as part of the role i.e., attending properties to perform repairs or maintenance within the relevant trade skills, attending meetings, internal training workshops and more. Whereas the remaining 20% is off the job and is time especially dedicated during the working week for you to attend in-person apprenticeship workshops, complete assignments and any other apprenticeship related learning or tasks.

What will I be responsible for doing?

First and foremost, you will be a responsible individual with a passion to learn a trade and develop skills aligned to YHG values. 

One of the great things about this role is that it is an opportunity to combine technical and practical skills whilst obtaining a formal qualification.

Being an Apprentice Joiner comes with a wide variety of responsibilities, such as working within health, safety, and environmental requirements, using the appropriate machinery, tools, and materials, communicating well with colleagues, and building strong working relationships.

You will have a full UK Driving License (ideally no more than 6 points), or you will need to obtain one before the completion of the apprenticeship.

This role also offers genuine progression opportunities, many of our apprentices have obtained permanent roles with us, gained further qualifications or have been successful in progressing to more senior roles.
