Job Introduction

Job Title:                  Health & Safety Trainer / Advisor

Salary:                      £28,800

Contract:                  Permanent

Location:                  Regional

Weekly Hours:         28 hours (over 4 days per week)

So…. What is this role exactly?

This is a rare opportunity for a health and safety professional with a bias in H & S training to join our highly collaborative Occupational Health & Safety Team here at YHG.

It’s a genuinely exciting time to join the team, as we look to launch our updated health & safety strategy and plan and refresh our health & safety training offer.

As well as designing and delivering health & Safety training to a diverse range of stakeholders throughout the Group, you will also have the opportunity to work as an integral member of the health & safety advisory team, offering health & safety advice and support to colleagues and carrying out health & safety inspections at our schemes and workplaces.

We are looking for somebody who has a great understanding of health & safety legislation, who really cares about the health, safety, and wellbeing of people, is passionate about what they do and is creative in their approach to training, enabling them to engage with a wide range of people to make learning enjoyable.

What will my working week look like?

This role offers a unique opportunity to work a 4-day week (28 hours per week) and we can be flexible around what works for you! So, if you would like to have Fridays off, no problem! If you would prefer a few afternoons to yourself, that’s fine!

What we would ask is for this to be the same for each week so we can schedule training sessions around your diary. You will be home-based, ideally living within a reasonable distance of our Head Office in Warrington, where you will deliver much of our training, and attend meetings when needed. Some flexibility to visit some of our schemes or other offices/hubs, throughout the Northwest, perhaps if completing an inspection will also be required.

What will I be responsible for doing?

Reporting directly to our Head of Health & Safety you will be responsible for the design and delivery of our health & safety training programme and will have the creative licence to deliver this training in a way that makes it inclusive, engaging, and enjoyable to learn for all our colleagues.

One of the great things about this role is the variety! You will have a real opportunity to impact change and improvements to our Health & Safety Training delivery in real time as you will combine the training role with an advisory role, (approximately 70% training / 30% advisory). Getting out and about into our workplaces and carrying out health & safety inspections or assessments, will provide you with a fantastic grasp as to some of the key challenges our teams face within the Health & Safety space, enabling you to make informed suggestions on how future training plans can be delivered or prioritised.

You will also be an important member of our health & safety advisory team, supporting the team to provide health & safety guidance to colleagues across the business and contribute to the continuous development of our health & safety processes and procedures.

And what would make me stand out from the crowd?

To be successful as a Health & Safety Trainer/Advisor here at YHG, you will have….

  • A relevant Health & Safety qualification (minimum NEBOSH certificate or equivalent)
  • Experience of delivering training and advising on health & safety requirements

Ideally you will be …….

  • A collaborative team player
  • A creative and engaging communicator
  • Confident in providing advice and support to stakeholders across the Group.

This role is really suited to someone who is personable, inspiring and loves to work with people right across an organisation at all levels to make a difference and keep people safe.

So, if you have a passion for the health, safety and wellbeing of people and feel that this could be the right role for you, we would love to hear from you!

That all sounds great, what’s in it for me?

In return we offer £28,800 for a 28-hour week, and 25 days (pro-rata) annual leave (holidays also increase with time served) plus Bank Holidays, but our employee offering provides much more than just a competitive salary and holiday allowance.

We trust our people to manage their own diaries, if you need time for an appointment, the school run or an exercise class, as long as it fits with business needs, we’re open to what works for you too. And when you need to collaborate with your team, you can visit Youggle House – our wellbeing, social, collaboration and meeting space, in Birchwood, Warrington.

On top of this, we’ll provide you with a great benefits package, including a contributory pension where we match whatever you choose to contribute (up to 8%), an advanced level Healthcare cash plan through BHSF, that doesn’t just provide dental and optician cashback but also health and wellbeing benefits (such as 24/7 GP Access, money back from prescriptions and alternative therapy treatments) and an amazing discount scheme that gives you access to half price cinema tickets, subsidised gym memberships and a huge range of discounts with some of the biggest high street and online names.
